Army of Thieves Review

Sebastian is a bank teller in Potsdam and lives a mundane life. He experiences nightmares of zombies when a zombie outbreak in Nevada dominates international news. He also makes YouTube videos about safecracking that receive no attention until an anonymous user comments on them and invites him to a safecracking competition underground. Gwendoline, a skilled jewel thief who commented on his video, introduces herself to Sebastian after he wins the contest.

Gwendoline recruits Sebastian into a heist crew, expert hacker Korina, getaway driver Rolph and gunman Brad Cage to break into three banks with the three safes created by legendary locksmith Hans Wagner currently belonging to billionaire Bly Tanaka. Unfortunately, their time to finish their job is scarce as the safes are scheduled to be decommissioned in less than a week.

Gwendoline convinces Sebastian, a theoretical expert on safecracking and Wagner's work but with no practical experience, to join them. Together, the crew successfully undertook their heist of the first safe (the Rheingold) in Paris, escaping with only a fraction of the money. Gwendoline justifies this as the monetary gain being less significant than the reputation and challenge.

Sebastian develops feelings for Gwendoline as the crew celebrates their first heist, drawing jealousy from Brad, her boyfriend since they were teenagers, and his real name is Alexis. They travel to Prague, where the second safe (the Valkyrie) is located, and Delacroix, an obsessive Interpol agent leading a unit trying to capture Gwendoline and the crew for years after Brad shot him during a theft, follows them.

Gwendoline and Sebastian are soon identified by security after entering the bank, forcing Brad to perform a pretend robbery as a distraction. Sebastian cracks the second safe and leaves with Gwendoline and more money as Delacroix and his Interpol team race to the bank to stop them. A security guard shoots Brad in the shoulder and narrowly escapes the bank ahead of Sebastian and Gwendoline. Brad deliberately leaves Sebastian behind as the team flees, which forces him to escape the pursuing police by himself.

Korina and Gwendoline are angry with Brad's actions and leave the crew, despite the original plan being to leave Sebastian behind after the three heists were completed. The two return to Potsdam and reunite with Sebastian instead and tell him that completing the Wagner challenge is worth more to them than the money.

The trio heads to St. Moritz, the location of the last safe (the Siegfried) in Europe as Interpol also arrives. Delacroix's team is tricked by the team despite their belief in having a lead on them. Gwendoline, Korina, and Sebastian hijack the safe during its transfer from the casino, preventing Rolph and Brad from cracking it themselves.

Brad and Rolph pursue Sebastian and Gwendoline as they try to leave St. Moritz on a truck. Interpol catches Korina, who manages to warn them of the other two before securing her family's safety by selling them out. Sebastian succeeds in cracking the safe on the truck while Brad, Rolph, and Interpol pursue them. However, an increasingly unstable Brad and Rolph arrive before they can leave. She leaves with Sebastian after overpowering and handcuffing them to the truck for Interpol to find.

Sebastian and Gwendoline confess their mutual feelings before escaping on a boat to Hallstatt, Austria. Delacroix finally catches them, and he and Gwendoline stand off. She sacrifices herself to be arrested out of love for Sebastian so that he can escape and promises to find him after she is free. Sebastian escapes and vows to reunite with Gwendoline one day.

Later, Maria Cruz and Scott Ward go to California and find Ludwig's (formerly known as Sebastian) locksmith shop. They invite him to help them crack Wagner's legendary "missing" safe, which Gwendoline and Sebastian had resolved to break together once she was free; Ludwig accepts the job.
