Keira Woods' daughter mysteriously vanishes in the cellar of their new house. She soon discovers there is an ancient and powerful entity controlling their home that she will have to face or risk losing her family's souls forever.
Keira Woods and her partner, Brian, move to their new rural home, along with their young son, Steven, and teenage daughter, Ellie. Steven seems content enough with the new place, seeing all his toys and video games gathered in a separate room that his dad has set up as his playroom. However, Ellie is very unhappy with her parent's decision to move to an old, creepy-looking house far from their previous home and her friends. As Brian shows the family around the house, they notice strange paintings of the previous owner and mysterious symbols carved into the woodwork over the doorways. At one end of the house, a door leads down to an old, musty cellar. Ellie stands on the top of the stairs when the door mysteriously shuts and locks itself, trapping her inside. Her parents manage to unlock the door with a key that hangs next to it, but not before Ellie is scared, and she now despises the house even more. However, as fate would have it, the children have to spend the night alone at home. In addition, the parents have to attend an emergency meeting before meeting potential customers about their social media marketing business the next day.
Ellie tries making Steven go to bed early, but that doesn't go as planned as the boy plays around childishly. He shows her a goat skull he found inside a secret chamber in his playroom. The room is also filled with weird symbols and an abacus holder. They find a record player with a record and play it to hear a man's voice read out a math equation and then count numbers from one. Soon all the lights went out, and it got very dark. Ellie called her mom and said she was scared. Keira told her to check the fuse box to go down to the basement. To help her daughter feel less afraid, she tells her to count the steps on the stairs while going down. Ellie keeps counting with a trembling and shaky voice until she reaches the ninth step, and she fearfully closes her eyes and finishes counting as she reaches the tenth step. When Keira congratulates her and tells her the next set of instructions, Ellie is in a trance and continues to count beyond ten. The parents, scared for their daughter, drive back to their home but find no sign of Ellie.
The demon uses one of Steven's remote-controlled toys to trick him again, and the entire house loses power as the parents rush to find him. They find their son inside the secret closet in his playroom, where he appears to be walking into a dark, endless void. Keira saves Steven and Brian from the demon's influence by laying them down. Steven seems possessed, while Brian is dazed and confused while announcing the demon's arrival. Keira attempts to conceal herself from the satyr-like creature, but it catches her. She somehow manages to break free and runs downstairs to the cellar. Once there, she realizes the staircase is prolonged and leads to a door. This door led her to a dark tunnel, which led to an open area. In this area, she saw thousands of people - both men and women - who looked dead, walking in lines and counting numbers. Some were even counting in billions. Upon seeing this, Keira realized that her daughter was one of the many people Baphomet had lured into its dimension. She notices a foot with the same tattoo as her daughter's and realizes that Ellie is in a trance. She pulls Ellie out of line and runs back to their house. They manage to come out of the cellar door.
The lights in the house are back on, and Brian and Steven's possessions have also ended. The family is happy to be reunited, and Ellie's consciousness has also returned. However, Keira wants to leave the house immediately and leads her family toward the front door. But when they open the door, they find a long staircase leading up to a lit room that looks exactly like their cellar doorway. The whole family starts counting numbers again, and the house appears to have been transported to the realm of Baphomet.
