25 years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, Calif., a new killer dons the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town's deadly past.

Scream (2022): Spoilers Below

Scream (2022)

There are two Ghostface killers in Scream 5. The first is Jack Quaid's character, Richie Kirsch, the boyfriend of the main heroine, Sam Carpenter, played by Melissa Barrera. Billy Loomis, the original Ghostface killer, is Sam's secret father. The moral of the story is always to be suspicious of your love interest!

The new Scream features Amber Freeman as one of the killers. She is the friend of Sam's sister Tara and her and Richie go on a rampage throughout the movie, killing many new and old characters. They are finally revealed in the third act.

The film has a classic Scream opening, in which the Ghostface killer terrorizes and attacks a teenage girl. But, in this case, the girl lives, and her sister Sam comes back to be with her.

However, Sam has a secret. When she was a teenager, she learned that she was the daughter of Billy Loomis. Fleeing from whatever possible destiny might be passed down to her from her father, she left Woodsboro as soon as possible and has been taking medication to suppress the visions she's been having of her young, bloody father.

Once Sam arrives in Woodsboro, a townsperson related to one of the previous victims is killed. She realizes that the new Ghostface Killer is only just getting started. Many of Tara's friends and acquaintances are related to prior franchise characters, making them huge targets. It is Sam's duty to end this threat. The original Scream trilogy's characters are brought back together to protect a new generation being targeted by a copycat killer in Woodsboro. Sam asks for Dewey Riley's aid, who enlists the help of Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers to warn the potential victims and fight off the killer.

Ghostface brutally murders Sheriff Judy Hicks and her son Wes at their home. This is where Gale and Dewey, who have a complicated relationship, reconnect and discuss how their relationship ended.

When Sam and Dewey realize Tara is alone at the hospital, they hurry to get there only to find Ghostface attacking her sister, Tara, and Richie. Dewey shoots Ghostface repeatedly and gets the three into an elevator before staying behind to finish the killer off. Unfortunately, Ghostface kills Dewey.

At the hospital, Gale arrives to see the body of her friend Dewey, and shortly after, Sidney comes to offer her condolences. At the same time, Sam decides to immediately take Tara out of Woodsboro. Sidney, a final girl like herself, offers to help stop Ghostface, but Sam rejects the offer and leaves with her boyfriend and sister. Gale and Sydney follow the three to Amber's house using a tracker, the same house where the other Ghostface from the first film, Stu Macher, committed a couple of murders after throwing a house party.

After the party dies down, Richie finally shows himself as one of the Ghostface killers. He's a massive fan of the Stab series based on the Woodsboro killings, and he teamed up with Amber to get new killings that would bring attention back to the franchise.

After seeing her father in a mirror, Sam finds Ghostface's blade and, after warning him never to f@#k with the "daughter of a serial killer," stabs Richie multiple times. Meanwhile, Gale and Sidney fight Amber, who is very tough.

Gale offers to kill Amber, but Sidney says she should do it instead. So Gale hands her the gun, which Sidney uses to shoot Amber. Amber falls onto the stove and catches on fire.

The conclusion of the Ghostface killer's reign of terror leaves Woodsboro in a state of peace and restoration. For now.
