Friends Blaire and Zoe hire Benny, a freelance chauffeur in place of his brother Jay, to drive them to several popular nightclubs around Los Angeles. However, he is unaware that both the girls are vampires.

For centuries vampires have only fed on humans by consent, allowing them to co-exist peacefully. However, an affluent vampire lord named Victor has grown tired and dissatisfied with his life and is conspiring to destroy the treaty by capturing Jay's girlfriend, violating the truce with Boyle Heights. Unknown to Benny, his brother is secretly a member of the human council whose duty is to maintain the peace between humans and vampires. To punish the vampires for their betrayal, Jay and his allies begin hunting all of them in LA. Victor goes forward with his plot to murder the other lords and take power for himself while giving Blaire and Zoe the assignment of creating chaos in the city to distract the peacekeepers and vampire hunters.

Benny realizes what Blaire and Zoe are using him for when he drops the girls off at a hotel which is secretly a feeding ground for vampires. The girls threaten to kill him but spare him to get to Jay. While visiting one of their targets, vampire hunters trap the girls, but Benny decides to help them escape and hide at his home. Benny discovers that his brother lost to Victor in hand-to-hand combat and is held captive.

Benny drops off Blaire and Zoe at Victor's home, the last location on their list. Benny refuses to abandon his brother despite Blaire's urging him to leave. Inside the house, Benny finds that Victor keeps several human prisoners as "blood bags" for him to feed on, his brother Jay included. While trying to free Jay, Victor captures him. Victor and Zoe threaten to kill him, but after realizing she has feelings for Benny, Blaire turns against them. In the ensuing struggle, Zoe stabs Blaire, and Benny remotely activates his brother's car, smashing a window and burning Zoe to ashes with the sunlight. Victor uses Jay as bait to attack Benny and manages to bite him before Jay tackles him into the sunlight, killing him. Benny soon transforms into a vampire. Jay tells Benny he's decided to start training as a professional vampire hunter and that he counts on him to fight by his side when the city plunges into chaos and the brothers go their separate ways. Later that night, Benny meets Blaire for an evening out.
