Bodies Bodies Bodies: Spoilers Below
A24's newest horror movie, "Bodies Bodies Bodies," is finally being released to the public after premiering at SXSW earlier this year. The film, a wacky slasher whodunit, follows a group of seven friends who become trapped at a luxurious mansion when a hurricane hits. As they struggle to survive, the body count starts to pile up. Who will be the next to die? A group of friends decides to play a game of "Bodies Bodies Bodies" one night. Little do they know that this game will have deadly consequences. One by one, members of the group start mysteriously disappearing until only a few are left. Who is the murderer? The fun gathering quickly becomes a nightmare as everyone starts turning on each other. With no way out, the situation soon escalates into bloodshed.
The friends in the horror movie "Bodies Bodies Bodies" will find themselves in a night of escalating paranoia and violence, from which they may not survive. The film mocks both itself and its young characters. This horror movie looks behind the carefully curated images we present to the world and skewers them in both a literal and figurative sense. It exposes the dark truths that lurk beneath the surface and makes us question everything we thought we knew about the people around us.
The story focuses on a new couple, Sophie and Bee, who join their wealthy friend David's hurricane party at his family's mansion. Also in attendance are the insecure Emma, the observant Jordan, and the irritating Alice. One group member is Max, who is left in anger and is nowhere to be seen. The other odd person is Greg, a mysterious older man Alice met on a dating app. A game of Bodies Bodies Bodies turns sour when Greg and David get into a confrontation. The game ends without violence, but both go their separate ways. The first person to die is David.
As soon as they find the dead body of David with his throat slit, everything starts to unravel. At first, they think that Greg must have done it and go to talk to him. He seems baffled by the accusation, though he soon becomes defensive in defending himself. As a result, Bee knocks him dead with a weight. The characters in the horror movie "Bodies Bodies Bodies" are unsure if they are correctly identifying the killer. Emma dies after she falls down a flight of stairs, and they suspect someone has pushed her. The remaining characters begin to die off one by one. Alice, Jordan, and Sophie turn on Bee when they realize that she hasn't been telling the whole truth about herself. They believe that she is lying about who she is, and they may be right. Bee has been keeping secrets about her job and education, and the three friends are determined to get to the bottom. After they kick her outside into the storm, Bee notices that Jordan has brought a gun and is hiding it. Sophie and Bee approach Jordan after Alice is shot. Jordan has a hidden gun, which is revealed during a scuffle. Alice is shot multiple times and dies. A fight ensues, and she falls off a balcony to her death. Sophie and Bee are the only ones left, and Bee suspects Sophie of cheating. This climaxes in a fight over a phone by the pool to determine if this is true. There, they discover something that reveals all of what set off this night of killing and violence.

Mud-covered but still working, David's phone is playing a TikTok video of him trying to open a bottle of liquor with a sword. David sees Greg do it successfully and attempts to copy his actions, unfortunately resulting in him cutting his own throat and stumbling away. So the start wasn't a murder but an entirely accidental self-inflicted injury. Shocked into silence, Sophie and Bee sit quietly as a new person comes in. Finally, Max comes back to see the mess that has been made while he is gone. It is a fitting end to show how, through all the chaos, it was all just a joke.
All of the death was not just because of some murderer who hid their true identity as they killed their friends one by one. There is something much more sinister at work here. The young friends are the ones who set the madness and brutality into motion. It was their infighting that sparked the fear and paranoia that consumed them. Each death occurred either by accident or their own, driven by the fear that only existed in their minds.
The long-simmering resentment between the friends was what ultimately led to their downfall. The tension we saw, in the beginning was just the tip of the iceberg, and it all came to a head in the end. As the night wears on, the arguments between the two become more and more honest, revealing the underlying dysfunction left unspoken until then. While the film is primarily a horror-comedy, the material it covers makes the ending both hilariously explosive and revealing. The film's final punchline crystallizes all of the absurdity within it, and that the truth is revealed after all their friends are dead is poetry.
