A woman staying at an Airbnb discovers that the house she has rented is not what it seems.

Barbarian: Spoilers Below

Barbarian (2022)

You step into the Airbnb to find that a stranger already occupies it. You try to call the host, but there's no answer. You're now stuck in a horror movie-esque situation with no way out. The stranger in the film "Barbarian" offers to take the couch while the protagonist takes the bed. The protagonist reluctantly accepts, not knowing the true horrors lurking beneath the house.

This leads to a horrible, disgusting nightmare in the world of Zach Cregger's Barbarian. The absolute horror of the film takes off when co-renters and newfound friends Keith, and Tess, decide to explore the basement. Unfortunately, they find something that defies explanation and may cost them their lives. As soon as they enter, they find themselves trapped in a seemingly never-ending system of tunnels.

A young woman named Tess is stuck in a small house with a groaning, sagging, humanoid creature. The creature soon kills Keith, the other person in the house. Tess is trapped in the basement for a few weeks until she is joined by AJ, an actor who owns the property and is looking to sell it.

The lead character in the horror movie "Barbarian" is being held captive by a woman imprisoned by a man for the past forty years and was driven insane. She saw someone in the basement and thought they were her baby. She treated them accordingly until they upset her.

A woman has been murdering people and locking them in a cage under the foundation of her Airbnb. Tess and AJ are the latest victims, and the only way they can stay alive is to pretend to be babies and let the woman treat them like infants.

Tess has been doing this for a while to survive, but AJ is unwilling to suck from her creepy milk bottle and tries to run away. The Mother is upset and drags him to her nursing room. Thankfully, the cage door is left open, and she takes her opportunity to escape. Although she knows it's safe to do, she can't seem to bring herself to leave AJ behind. Nevertheless, her moral compass is pulling her to save him, and she goes to do so despite the danger.

Tess returned to the house by herself and found AJ after the police dismissed her as a crackhead. But before she could get him, he shot her with a gun he'd stolen from The Mother's father. It turns out he was still living in the basement, but when he was discovered, he quickly shot himself.

As Tess and AJ flee from the monstrous Mother, they quickly realize that the police won't be able to help them. Desperate for shelter, they turn to Andre, a homeless man who knows all too well about how terrifying The Mother and her captor are. However, even though the Mother hasn't bothered Andre in the fifteen years he's lived in Detroit, she quickly descends upon him and brutally rips him apart. She wants Tess - her baby - back at any cost.

The showdown between AJ and The Mother will determine who will survive. AJ tries to save himself by pushing Tess off a water tower. This act is not entirely out of character for AJ, as his backstory includes facing sexual assault allegations from an actress he coerced into having sex. But The Mother leaps off the water tower to save her baby. AJ finds that Tess is alive and apologizes profusely to her, but his time is up. The Mother avenges her baby's death by swiftly killing the perpetrator.

The Mother is overjoyed to be reunited with her baby, but Tess says she can't go back and shoots her. With that, Barbarian cuts to credits, which are ominously overlaid by The Ronettes' song "Be My Baby."
