Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter in New York City.
Scream VI was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. The same duo in charge of the previous reqeul (sequel disguised as a reboot). It stars Melissa Barrera (from Bed Rest), Jenna Ortega (from X and American Carnage), Courteney Cox (from the original Scream), Jasmin Savoy Brown (from Sound of Violence), Mason Gooding, Hayden Panettiere, Dermot Mulroney (from Insidious: Chapter 3) and Liana Liberato (from The Beach House).
New York. New rules.
It is now one year after the Woodsboro legacy attacks and the core survivors relocated to New York in hopes to get their lives back on track. Chad, Mindy and Tara all continued with their lives, started college, found roommates and even started new relationships. This is not the case for Tara’s sister Sam who is still struggling and figuring out how to deal with the events from the previous year and the burden of being the daughter of a famous serial killer. Her main objective is now to protect Tara and this creates a lot of pressure between them.
As you might guess the new killings begin and this time it is a lot more brutal. To be honest, I am not a huge fan of the 2022 sequel. Something felt strange for me while watching it and I couldn’t pinpoint the actual problem I had with it. That was until I saw this new one. The directors totally switched the game and although it’s still the “whodunit” slasher like the previous installment, it now has a high number of brutal action followed by kills that will keep you on the edge of your seat! And another big plus for me is the fact that I was unable to guess who was the killer behind the mask.
The pros: strong cast (even though this is the first Scream without the legendary Neve Campbell), great action scenes, brutal kills, decent story and good ending.
Of course, a movie like this also has to have some weak points. There are some dumb decisions and some unrealistic scenes where you would just think to yourself:
Well, where the hell are the cops… It’s NYC? Or, how in the name of Christ is this guy alive? And the good old… Now that you got him on the ground it would be more logical to finish him off and not run away! But to be honest the horror genre has had this “little problem” since forever!
When it comes to predicting if there will be more sequels to come, I tend to think that number 7 is going to be the magic number so if we do get/when we get a next Scream movie, they are going to name it Ghostface and Sidney Prescott will be there for the final showdown. What year? Let’s go with October 2024.
And if I got all of these correct I’m going to Vegas to get rich #easymoney!
