If you’re a fan of possession movies along the lines of The Conjuring and The Exorcist, then Welcome to Mercy is definitely a film you’ll want on your horror radar. It’s IFC Midnight’s newest production and it’s causing quite a buzz in the horror community at large. The trailer also just dropped, sparking early comparison of the film to “The Conjuring meets Shutter Island ”.

The plotline of the film follows the trials and tribulations of single mother, Madaline. When Madaline develops stigmata, she is sent to a lonely and very creepy island convent for clerical evaluation. There are even rumors that she may be transforming into the Antichrist and her friend, August is the only person she can rely on. Will Madaline be able to overcome the dark forces at work inside of her before it’s too late?

Welcome to Mercy is directed by Tommy Bertelsen (Feed, Ed Wood) and features a rousing score by Queens of the Stone Age’s own bassist Michael Shuman. It also stars its screenwriter, Kristen Ruhlin as the tortured Madaline. Lily Newmark (Pin Cushion, Solo) co-stars as August.

Welcome to Mercy officially premiered at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival earlier this month, as well as received screen time at Screamfest in Los Angeles. If you missed this promising new film either of those places, look for it in select theaters and on various VOD platforms starting November 2nd. In the meantime, you can feast your eyes on the official posters and trailer.
