When director David Robert Mitchell released the now iconic It Follows in 2014, he officially made an instant name for himself among horror circles. Not only was the film as scary and suspenseful as any horror fan could possibly hope for, but it was also very unique, propelled by a strong, well-crafted storyline. Fans have been patiently awaiting a follow-up ever since, but Mitchell had yet to announce any new projects until recently.

The Hollywood Reporter dropped news this week that the wait is officially over. Mitchell is currently channeling his storytelling abilities into a full-length adaptation of Julian Terry’s acclaimed horror short, They Hear It. (The film will be made by Legendary Entertainment and produced by The Picture Company.) However, while Mitchell will be contributing his unparalleled writing skills to the project, he won’t be sitting in the director’s chair this time around. That honor will be going to Terry.

The plotline of They Hear It centers on a dark, enigmatic entity known as “The Sound”. Once heard, The Sound is said to cause intensely terrible suffering, as well as additional untold consequences. Horror aficionados are comparing the premise to this year’s runaway horror hit, A Quiet Place. However, those in the know have said fans can actually expect the film to recall such iconic horror classics as It and The Birds. For a more pointed taste of what to expect, fans are urged to whet their appetite by checking out Julian Terry’s original short of the same name.

There’s good news on the horizon for those that would really love to see David Robert Mitchell direct another film as well. Upcoming thriller Under the Silver Lake will hit theaters later this year and stars Andrew Garfield, Topher Grace, and Riley Keough. A tale of a man in search of a missing woman, Silver Lake is both written and directed by Mitchell. Look for it in theaters December 7, 2018.
