The CW has ordered a pilot for a television show based on the 1987 cult favorite The Lost Boys, according to Deadline. An anthology adaptation was previously attempted by Veronica Mars creator and iZombie writer Rob Thomas three years ago, but The CW decided against ordering that pilot; Thomas will join this series as Executive Producer.

If picked up, the series will be written and executive produced by Heather Mitchell, who has previously worked on Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy. She is currently working with Laverne Cox on Spirited, a TV movie about a psychic who discovers that she can communicate with the dead.

The Lost Boys’ logline: Welcome to sunny seaside Santa Carla, home to a beautiful boardwalk, all the cotton candy you can eat…and a secret underworld of vampires. After the sudden death of their father, two brothers move to Santa Carla with their mother, who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.

The CW also ordered a pilot for a Riverdale spin-off titled Katy Keene, based on four characters in the Archie comics. Its first spinoff, Netflix Original teen witch thriller The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, has been a huge success in its first season. No word yet on if the newest series will continue with the dark adaptation of the comics that Riverdale and Sabrina have provided, but with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa at the helm, we’re hoping that we’re in for more terrifying adventures from Archie’s gang to go along with Mitchell’s vampire brotherhood.
