Suspiria to Hit Blu-Ray and VOD in January

If you were eagerly looking forward to checking out Lionsgate’s Suspiria remake in theaters only to be disappointed when it didn’t hit a venue near you, we’ve got some great news. Lionsgate Home Entertainment will be releasing Luca Guadagnino’s remake of the original Dario Argento classic sooner than you may have expected – this coming January!

We have official confirmation that Suspiria will be released on multiple VOD platforms January 15, 2019. If you’re a collector that would prefer to wait until you’ve got your very own copy in your hands, mark your calendar for the Blu-Ray release on January 29, 2019 instead. Suspiria features a star-studded cast that includes the likes of Dakota Johnson (Black Mass, Fifty Shades Freed), Chloe Grace Moretz (Dark Shadows, Carrie), Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin), and Mia Goth (A Cure for Wellness). It also features a hauntingly stellar score composed by Radiohead’s Thom Yorke.

For those not in the know or that may not be familiar with the original, Suspiria is about a world-famous dance company, but this is no ordinary story about dancers and their dreams. There’s something sinister about Markos Dance Academy and it’s looking to devour the lives of not only its artistic director, Madame Blanc (Swinton), but those of a talented young dancer (Johnson), a grieving therapist, and others as well.

Like many darkly artistic horror films (not to mention most remakes), Suspiria definitely polarized audiences upon its release. Some detested it, but others loved it and couldn’t help but praise its unique approach to the original material, as well as its aesthetic. Guadagnino’s Suspiria is far from a carbon copy of Argento’s original work. It’s very much its own creation and deserves to be approached as such.
