Italian director Luca Guadagnino’s first horror film Suspiria, a retelling of Dario Argento’s 1977 groundbreaking film, received polarizing reviews in the horror community. For fans of Guadagnino’s rendition, the Blu-ray becomes available on January 29.

While notably gorier, featuring an entirely different musical score and lacking Argento’s signature colorful cinematography, Suspiria sticks to the same general plot points as the original. Susie (Dakota Johnson), an American who joins a prestigious ballet academy in Berlin, begins to experience strange happenings at the academy. Mysterious and nightmarish images overcome her, and as her distrust for everyone around her grows, she begins to suspect that the instructors at the academy are actually a coven of witches. There’s even a cameo from Jessica Harper, who played Susie in the original film.

Some loved the new spin on an old classic, and others wondered why the director would even attempt to touch such an iconic film (including Argento himself).

The Suspiria Blu-ray can be purchased here.  Sound off in the comments: what did you think of Guadagnino’s remake?
