Fans of the legendary vampire daytime television series Dark Shadows are in for a treat, because we finally have a trailer and release date for the documentary, Master of Dark Shadows, courtesy of MPI Media Group. The feature film will be available across all digital platforms as well as DVD on April 16th.

Dan Curtis’s gothic series began in 1966 on ABC-TV and was a mass success among young viewers. The series ran until 1971, coming back for a brief reboot in 1991. The wealthy Collins family’s eerie stay and cursed lives in a Maine mansion is chronicled in the series. Multiple horror-themed storylines, revolutionary for daytime television, turned Dark Shadows into a cult classic.

The documentary, which was shot in New York, LA and London, includes interviews with several actors and filmmakers from the series, as Ian McShane narrates. Rare footage, stories from behind the scenes, and the impact and lasting appeal of Dark Shadows will be explored. Multi-talented creator Curtis is also interviewed for the doc. True Blood writer/producer Alan Ball, Ghost actress Whoopi Goldberg and Black Sunday actress Barbara Steele are also interviewed.
