If you walked away from Shudder’s Dinners of Death marathon over Thanksgiving thinking the ever-witty Joe Bob Briggs was the perfect holiday horror host, we have some excellent news for you. Briggs will be back with a vengeance to host A Very Joe Bob Christmas for Shudder as well. In fact, a new trailer for the event has just dropped and it already has us excited.
According to the trailer (and Joe Bob himself), the event will feature a total of four films that “don’t make a lick of sense”. Naturally that will provide plenty of opportunity for the acerbic critic to insert plenty of his clever trademark quips just as we would hope. From the looks of things, we can expect Darcy the Mail Girl to return as well. In other words, A Very Joe Bob Christmas promises to deliver a solid viewing experience that will be every bit as entertaining as Dinners of Death was. With any luck, it will cement Briggs’s connection with the holidays going forward, because we’d be happy to make this a new yearly tradition!
That being said, if you’re the type of person that thinks horror films are better when witty, off-the-cuff commentary is part of the mix, you’ll definitely want to check out this trailer. It’s filled with Joe Bob’s one-of-a-kind commentary on not only the movies, but the holidays themselves. (Among other things, he has some particularly hilarious things to say about what usually happens the weekend before Christmas.) A Very Joe Bob Christmas airs Friday, December 21, 2018 on Shudder. Perfect for genre fans that would rather pop some popcorn and veg out in front of a few good flicks than don an ugly holiday sweater and hang out with bickering relatives the Friday before Christmas!
And if you’ve never seen a Joe Bob X-Mas special before, let’s just say he’s been doing this a long time. Here’s a video of his special from many years ago.
