Horror legend Jamie Lee Curtis will receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 56th Annual International Cinematographers Guild (ICG, IATSE Local 600) Publicists Awards next month, celebrating a monumental four decades in acting. The awards luncheon will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Friday, February 22, 2019.
Calls for a Lifetime Achievement Award swirled through the twittersphere after her appearance presenting at the Golden Globes, where Ben Stiller mentioned Halloween’s massive success as the highest-grossing film debut with a woman lead over 55.
"We are thrilled to honor Jamie Lee Curtis, who has created a celebrated body of film and television work that spans many genres. Who wasn't frightened by her Laurie Strode character in Halloween – and just as terrified in her reprise portrayal 40 years later? Her artistic talents have generated a legacy of characters that are embedded in our minds forever. We are honored to spotlight her varied and award-winning career," said ICG National President Steven Poster, ASC.
Curtis began her acting career in horror, serving as the lead in John Carpenter’sHalloween. She has since starred in a slew of horror films, including Terror Train, Prom Night, The Fog, and several Halloween sequels, along with two seasons of Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens. Though she has a storied and prolific career, she has never shied away from continuing to take on roles in horror - a genre in which many A-list actors steer clear.
We at All Horror are thrilled that the Ultimate Scream Queen is being honored for her achievements. Perhaps with this recognition following Halloween’s release, and more A-list stars such as Jordan Peele coming into the fold, our favorite genre will begin to see the respect and recognition it deserves.
