Who says horror has to be feature-length to be worth watching? We’ve definitely seen our share of shorts that made just as much of an impact on us as any feature-length length film we’ve ever seen and now we can officially add another to the list. A brand new indie horror short by Los Angeles-based director Michael Rich just premiered on YouTube and we definitely think it’s worth your time.
The short is called Cabin Killer. It’s definitely part of the horror genre, but it also delivers a hefty dose of comedy for good measure, so it’s perfect for those that like to temper their screaming with the occasional chuckle or two. The plotline follows a young couple dealing with relationship troubles. Like many couples before them, they ultimately decide some time away from it all is just what the doctor ordered. Cut to a remote cabin in the woods where they’ve gone to enjoy a little peace and quiet while they work on their troubles! Of course, nothing goes according to plan as our couple is treated to a frighteningly hellish surprise. Cabin Killer stars Jose de Jesus Martinez as the titular killer. Chris Orlandi and Gabi van Horn also star as the couple.
In addition to streaming on YouTube, Cabin Killer also received a showing at Shriekfest, taking home the coveted award for Best Super Short Film in the process. It’s had screenings at several other horror festivals as well including the St. Louis International Film Festival, the Knoxville Horror Film Fest, and the Nightmares Film Festival. If you haven’t had a chance to check it out yourself yet, definitely make sure you check it out on YouTube. Its twist ending and fun touches of comic relief make it more than worth 10 minutes of your time!
