Things in the movie world are looking up. We’ve got a slew of horror films that moved their release from 2020 until next year, and now we’ve confirmed that the much-anticipated and much-discussed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel will indeed release in 2021. Here’s your first look at a stylized Leatherface, courtesy of director David Blue Garcia’s instagram:

The caption reads: "In early August I was about to go for a run in the Texas heat when Legendary Pictures called. 'Are you sitting down? We need a Director to take over Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That was a Thursday afternoon. After a whirlwind of calls and zoom meetings with all sorts of producers I was approved and on a plane to Sofia, Bulgaria that same Sunday. A week later we started shooting."

The sequel is said to be a continuation of the 1974 original, and will follow two sisters on a road trip to Texas that leads them face to face with the monstrosity that is Leatherface.

Legendary Pictures parted ways with original directors Ryan and Andy Tohill over creative differences, and snatched up Garcia to direct last August. This will mark Garcia’s second feature film, and writer Chris Thomas Devlin’s first screenplay. Ricardo Diaz will serve as cinematographer and Director of Photography; both Garcia and Diaz are Texans. Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues of Don’t Breathe and the Evil Dead sequel will serve as producers. The film stars Elsie Fisher, Moe Dunford, Jacob Latimore, Sarah Yarkin, Olwen Fouéré, and John West, Jr.
