Critic Reviews:

There are simply films that are so much better than their flaws -- indeed, better because of their flaws. This is one of them.

If you've only seen the Corman-Price-Poe movies panned and scanned on television, you've barely got an idea of how impressive they are.

The Poe story is a masterpiece in terms of conjuring fear, terror and impending dread. Most of the film adaptations of The Pit and the Pendulum make it solely about a unique torture instrument and fail to discover any of the internal psychological torment that is the essence of the story.
