I’d have to say that Mutation on Mars is a step forward for Chinese science fiction and creature films in terms of its effects and action scenes. But in terms of plotting it’s a step back. And, while it will play well in its homeland, the blatant propaganda will strike a sour note with international audiences.
I don’t regret watching this movie, it was only 1 hour 5 minutes in duration. We had a good laugh and learnt that China is trying to make science fiction but has a little way to go to be competitive with the US/Canada/UK. I think it’s best that I don’t rate it.
