‘Madres’, unfortunately never measures up as an enjoyable or intense horror flick as it promises. Its inability to become more than a hopeful and inspired idea from Zaragoza to bring to the conversation a significant issue is painful.
Calling a movie like “Madres” by-the-numbers would be a compliment, and an overstatement, because that would indicate that the makers were even mildly successful.
Madres isn’t 100 percent functional, but it’s admirable for its ambition.
