What to Expect

I remember this movie floating around when I was a kid, but never got around to seeing it. I was probably too busy swapping Gremlin's schwag with my friends. Gremlin's was awesome. And it was only now that I finally sat down to watch Ghoulies that I learned it was just a cheap knock-off released on the heels of Gremlin's success. But I get it, knock-offs are a thing and I've probably watched a dozen Exorcist knock-offs that I liked. This particular knock-off wasn't great, but it had its moments. The critters were mostly there just to snicker and roll their eyes, they didn't really do much until near the end. What surprised me most about Ghoulies was its seriousness, the goofy box cover makes you think it's going to be a juvenile comedy, but nope. Read more...
