Summary

Just when you thought it was safe to sleep, Freddy Krueger returns in this sixth installment of the Nightmare on Elm Street films, as psychologist Maggie Burroughs, tormented by recurring nightmares, meets a patient with the same horrific dreams. What to Expect

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (Nightmare on Elm Street 6), was the final big splash in the NoES franchise. It's full of pop culture including cameos from big stars of the time including Tom Arnold, Rosanne Barr, Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp (who starred in a "this is your brain on drugs" commercial). It also featured a theme song by the Goo Goo Dolls and a lengthy plug for Nintendo and their Power Glove which was all the rage (for about a week) back in '91. It also lured people into the theater by featuring a 3D ending which they dubbed "Freddy Vision". Overall it's very reminiscent of Dream Warriors (franchise fan favorite) only with way more cheese. Freddy’s Dead, I am not sure why they killed him off. New Line is the house that Freddy built and eventually they were sold to Warner. To me this movie was the official end of the 1980s horror films.

I will tell you this right now, I can’t bash Freddy’s Dead like so many out there have done. The nostalgia factor is just too much for me to overlook, and not only that but the film just isn’t as bad as most claim it to be.

Freddy’s Dead is very distinctly a product of the early nineties, with celebrity cameos - like Johnny Depp in a “this is your brain on drugs” PSA and Roseanne Barr and Tom Arnold as a childless couple in Springwood - as well as all sorts of cultural references from The Wizard of Oz and A Princess Bride to NES gaming.
