Critic Reviews:

Admittedly, the effects in Doctor X are rather mediocre and the comedy relief is absolutely appalling, but this efficiently made potboiler still manages to keep one’s interest.

Doctor X is a nice haunted house attraction, even if it isn’t as deep or moody as the movies Universal was pumping out around the same time. The film’s great look and good performances make this a surreal but fun murder mystery.

...while it is difficult to classify Doctor X as a must, a classic horror fan would probably be remiss if they avoided it altogether. It is a relic of a bygone era; it simply doesn't stand up as well as Dracula, Frankenstein, or even its "sister" film Mystery of the Wax Museum. As a horror film, Doctor X is middle-of-the-pack , but as a curiousity of the genre's history, it's definitely worth a gander.
