Daddy’s Girl’s issue is that it doesn’t possess the determination of other films of the genre, where the women bite back with a brutality that outweighs the violence afflicted upon them. It simply doesn’t believe in its women, and this script clearly never passed through the hands of one.
At first glance Daddy’s Girl could have been just another grubby exploitation film full of violence against women, but director Julian Richards wisely chooses not to linger too long on its most unpleasant moments.
Daddy’s Girl isn’t as cinematically raw or disturbingly authentic as his 2003 underrated masterpiece, it’s aesthetically slicker and more polished, however the overall narrative is without a doubt thematically dark and gritty.
