Chuzhal is one of those low-budget, atmospheric movies that is destined to be re-discovered after the people involved in the making of it go on to do better and greater things. It is the very definition of a stepping stone.
As a supernatural thriller, Chuzhal does offer a different experience for Malayalam viewers, though it isn't exactly original and the climax is predictably droll.

...the film, which did not even have an hour and a half, it took about 35 per cent of the time to clear the story and wasted a lot of time unnecessarily in the beginning. Either the picture could have been sharpened a little and reduced to an hour, or it could have included a few more thrilling scenes in the middle.
