The missing foursome will be the only ones not involved in the crime plot involving two goons and a deceiver who is paranoid about COVID-19. The deceiver crossed the goons by hiding the money he was supposed to give them in exchange for illegally acquired scientific data in the foursome's camping gear while they were away canoeing the morning after their night of sexual activities.
The goons track down and brutally kill the double-crosser, who was just about to discover a cure for COVID-19 that would have been worth billions of dollars. The formula for this supposed cure is scrawled on loose-leaf paper in his pocket. With the double-crosser out of the way, the goons are now free to look for their cash.
The foursome finds the body, the formula, and the money. The thieves then appear at the campsite, pressuring the group and pretending to be looking for their "friend." But instead, they are just trying to figure out their next move.
The main goon in the film is played by Michael D'Amico, who is very intimidating. His partner Jonathan Vanderzon comes across as a clueless redneck, which makes the film even more frightening.
The two goons were not about to leave without their money or without sampling the womenfolk, much to the friends' chagrin. The situation is unfortunate, and it will only get worse. We must suffer through a long, slow sequence to see how it all plays out. The repercussions are bloody, satisfying, and, well, downright dramatic. The ending lines up quite nicely and leaves you wondering what will happen next.
It is a shame that this movie drags on for too long. For some inexplicable reason, the filmmakers decided to use CGI blood spatter, which never looks convincing.
You find yourself hoping for Jason Voorhees to show up and kill off all the characters fooling around in the woods. The well-wrought score does help keep things moving forward, even when the editing is not ideal. The writing is excellent, and the acting is top-notch, but none of the characters are particularly likable. I still love Friday the 13th Part VII, even though I was not too fond of any of its characters. This is a great time to let go of your inhibitions and watch the mayhem unfold!
