While not my particular cup of terror tea, there is no denying that Brutal is amazingly successful at what it does, and manages to elevate itself from being mere torture porn and presents a romance of the most demented kind with some surprises to boot.
Brutal feels like a really promising concept, and it looks great both in its depiction of absolute horror and nihilism as well as one abstractly beautiful scene in the middle.
I was expecting a “gore for the sake of gore” type movie without any real depth to it (which I would have been fine with) but surprisingly Brutal was a deep movie with a clever social commentary about how men and women view themselves and each other.
