More than a horror thriller, Boomika is an eco-fable that isn't coy about its in-your-face messaging — be nice to Mother Earth or else.... Rathindran Prasad is so fixated with delivering this message that he stumbles in the storytelling.
Instead of presenting a regular tale of horror and revenge, Boomika unfolds as a story about nature protecting itself, but it gets a tad too preachy in the process and the message doesn’t create the intended impact. The messaging gets so in-your-face that it becomes too much to embrace.
...despite achieving a lot in the first thirty minutes of the film, Rathindran doesn’t run out of ideas. He also doesn’t take the easy route of ‘jump scares’. Instead, he puts in the effort to establish build-up for such scares, aided also by Prithvi Chandrasekhar’s adequate background score.
