The Nightmare on Elm Street Franchise Ranked Worst to First

Freddy Kreuger pushed the horror slasher genre to the limits back in 1984 when the original A Nightmare on Elm Street hit theaters.

Halloween had Michael Myers slow walking around town with a knife since 1978. Friday the 13th had Jason slow walking around the woods with a knife since 1980. Italian Giallo's had similarly masked men slow walking around towns and woods with knives since the 1960's. Seriously, the Italian's had been making slashers loooong before us, we just took them to Hollywood.

The original Friday the 13th was literally the same movie as a Giallo from 1972 called What Have You Done to Solange. Same twist ending and all.

Wes Craven broke up this monotony with a slasher villain who didn't slow walk, didn't wear a mask and didn't carry just one measly knife. Freddy broke every boundary of horror at the time and gave us an epic franchise that still kicks ass to this day.

I just watched through the entire franchise (again) and here's how I think they stack up.
