Welcome back to our series on Chinese Horror Movies Explained, where we explore the wacky, silly and crazy world of C-Horror movies and explain to you how the filmmakers get around the strict regulations and censorship imposed upon them by the Chinese government.
For this second episode we are going to stick with movies from production house Filmoon, but from a different director. This is a special episode because there are two movies in one!
The geniuses behind this film decided that one thing better than making one really bad horror movie, was making two! Filmed at the same time, with the same cast, the same location and using the same footage between both films, we present to you the Haunted Graduation Photo series.
Suliang and his friends are about to graduate from university, however they are still struck by the memory of his dead girlfriend Piaopiao, who passed away in a tragically hilarious hiking accident.
A ghost appears in the graduation photo that the boys take of the girls, and they realise that Piaopiao’s spirit is restless, and perhaps even after revenge as two of the girls are desperate for Suliang’s attention.
After conducting the traditional plate ghost ceremony at the same camping grounds where Piaopiao died, they think they’ve settled her spirit and they can get on their lives.
Only, Piaopiao has other ideas.
Twice.
Which is why there are two movies. Hey, don’t take my word for it, check out the video below and immerse yourself in Filmoon’s crazy world of The Haunted Graduation Photo!

I've decided to dedicate my horror movie knowledge to Chinese horror movies - from the mainland, not Hong Kong or Taiwan. These are the stranger than strange, the weirder than weird and the badder than bad! Can they even be classed as horror films?
